Some time ago I talked about the reasons for publishing free ebooks , but today I return to the topic because there is more to say. More importantly, today I'm talking about writing ebooks, not necessarily publishing them for free. Beyond the reasons I will discuss, the choice to sell or give away an ebook is yours and must be made according to specific objectives. In 2007 Seth Godin talked about one of his ebooks published with a publisher and released for free online. He was dumped by an impressive number of people. But he is also Seth Godin. Let's now focus on writing an ebook : we are now used to seeing them everywhere, in blogs the publication of ebooks is part of the creation of content and is therefore part of the content marketing strategy . Why should a blogger, but also a writer, any professional and a company write an ebook? I tried to answer this question and found seven reasons why writing an ebook can only bring advantages to the author . #1 – Encourage newsletter subscription It is almost a common practice in Anglo-Saxon blogs to give away an ebook when you sign up for the newsletter .
Indeed, in the newsletter box, the subscription itself is stimulated by the prospect of receiving a free ebook . To tell the truth, or rather to be picky, what we receive is not an ebook, but a PDF document, which many still insist on Special Data calling an ebook. Let's leave aside the controversy for now and see the gist of the matter: the ebook, in that case, is a sort of reward for the reader who wanted to subscribe to the newsletter and therefore chose to follow that blog. What ebook to give to subscribers? Definitely not something they can find on your blog. Several times I downloaded case studies, other times so-called white papers . You need to encourage subscription to your newsletter : therefore you need to write a valuable ebook. #2 – Experiment with self-publishing Today there is a lot of talk about it, but how many have tried it and have the courage to try it? Of course, this cannot be the main reason for writing an ebook, but for a writer and, in my opinion, also for a professional, it is an opportunity to be exploited.
Becoming a self-published author tests our organizational and entrepreneurial skills. It also makes us responsible, as long as we create an ebook without errors , but a professional editorial product. #3 – Do some testing What do we need to test by writing an ebook and publishing it? Our qualities as writers , first of all. We get involved, we come out into the open, we enter a specific market, even if the ebook is free. But we can also test our own ideas . If there is a topic that is close to our hearts, that we want to cover in depth and the blog is not exactly suitable for doing so, then an ebook gives us this possibility: it allows us to spread our thesis, to shake some consciences, to provide training, also, on a discipline. #4 – Don't be left out of the writing community Write an ebook just because everyone else is doing it? No, that's not what I meant. Try to think for just a moment about the scenario you might be faced with: all the other bloggers have at least one ebook published on their blog, perhaps to give away in the newsletter or to download on a special page. And you don't. Your readers, accustomed to seeing ebooks around in the blogs they follow, can't find any from you. They will wonder why.
